Over the weekend, Elevation welcomed Lisa Harper to teach on the early church from the book of Acts. The church was experiencing oppression and opposition despite the disciples converting thousands of people to know Christ. Lisa showed us how even in the face of oppression and opposition we, like the early church, can grow in our spiritual maturity enough to show compassion by remembering what Jesus did for us on the cross. You see, the early church was under so much persecution that the disciple Stephen was even stoned to death. Still, the others refused to mute the miracle of the resurrection and continued preaching the good news. In fact, just days after witnessing Stephan’s death, another disciple, Philip, journeyed to Samaria where he preached with such compassion that the entire city was filled with joy. In our lives, how can we overcome the oppression and opposition like the early church did? How can we remember the grace Jesus extends to us and extend it to others? We need to be mindful that on our absolute worst day, Jesus leaves the 99 for us and says, “You are so valuable!” https://elevationchurch.org/sermons/love-hard-even-when-it-is-hard/

A NEW LOOK WITH LIZZY.

WORK IT OUT. This past weekend, we had a special guest, Pastor Daniel Floyd from Lifepoint Church in Virginia. He shared a helpful word on faith. The book of James tells us that “faith without works is dead.” This shows us that we need to present evidence of our faith… not for salvation but to show that our faith is alive. It is often in the deficits of life where we find an opportunity to press into God to exercise our faith and strengthen it. Ps. Daniel shared a practical Old Testament example of what this looks like. In 1 Samuel 1:3-7, Hannah’s valley was longing for a child. For years, she pressed into God by crying out in prayer. She planted herself in the temple where she got a word that she would be blessed with a son. Immediately, she stopped crying because her faith was based on the word from the Lord she received and not that she had the child. About a year later, she did receive the child Samuel and then a couple of years later, her faith was put to the test as she had to sacrifice him by giving him to the Lord. Eventually, Hannah was rewarded with five more children. Like Hannah, we have the opportunity to show evidence of our faith when we press into God during our down seasons. We too can receive a word from God by planting ourselves in a church, surrounding ourselves with the right people and by reading our Bible. Then, we can sacrifice our blessing by giving it back to God so that we are rewarded more than we could imagine.
